Indices are trading instruments that indicate changes in the performance of a particular group of shares. Indices consist of several shares, which are calculated based on their cost or the capitalisation of the issuers.

Using indices in trading will enable you not only to diversify your investment portfolio but also to efficiently collect and analyze data relating to the global state of the economy or one of its sectors.

ShoreLiteTrades offers its clients access to the competitive conditions for trading indices.

For example, the spread in DE40, which is one of the most important German indices, has been decreased down to 0.5 pips on ECN and Prime accounts, and 0.7 pips on Pro accounts.

How to trade indices

Stock index cannot be traded as a pure asset – a trader can only operate its derivative. CFDs and ETFs are among the popular derivatives for indices.

CFDs (Contracts For Difference) are financial instruments that allow higher leverage while trading, and the opening of both long (buying) and short (selling) positions. CFDs on Indices usually have the same price as their underlying index, and follow the same trends.

All indices available for trading at ShoreLiteTrades are provided in the form of CFDs.

ETF (Exchange-Traded Fund) is an asset that is gaining popularity. It can represent the same set of shares as an index or the same industry or market. ETFs are traded on the same stock exchanges as the stocks included in the fund.

Some of the most common index ETFs include:

  • The SPDR S&P 500 Trust ETF (SPY), which tracks the S&P 500 index.
  • SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF (DIA), which tracks the Dow Jones index.
  • The Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ), which tracks the Nasdaq-100 index.

You can trade or invest in all of these instruments and other index ETFs on ShoreLiteTrades new-generation R StocksTrader platform.

Depending on your investment goals and preferences, choose an instrument that will suit your trading strategy the best.

At ShoreLiteTrades, you can trade 5 stock indices CFDs on the MetaTrader 4 / MetaTrader 5 platforms, 8 stock indices CFDs, and numerous index ETFs on the R StocksTrader platform.

We recommend the investor with less experience to study the market first, and practice trading on a demo account, before selecting an asset for real trading.

The order volume should be based on your initial investment and the amount of risk you are willing to take.

Place a BUY order if you believe that the index price will grow, and a SELL order if you predict its downward movement.

Trading does not stop when you open a position. You have to monitor your investments and react according to the market situation.

What is the difference between trading indices and Forex?

The differences between trading on these markets are mostly in the approach to market analysis and in understanding the reasons behind price movements. Some of the main differences are:

  • 1. Fundamental analysis.

Usually, market news does not affect the price of an index, but can affect the prices of particular stocks it comprises. Analysing and gathering this data can be more difficult and time-consuming than in Forex trading.

  • 2. Trading hours.

The index is traded according to the opening hours of the stock exchange, while Forex is active almost 24 hours a day. The market hours of the foreign stock exchanges on our website.

  • 3. Price movements.

In currency pairs traded on Forex, the final quote depends on the relationship between two national currencies. Basically, one currency is moving against another.

In indices trading, you should take into account the movement of numerous stocks included in an index. If one company’s stock is falling or growing, it will not necessarily affect the index. On the other hand, when the index price is falling or rising, this indicates the general trend of the whole market represented by the index.
